# About GiantMarkdown

GiantMarkdown is an independent document-to-Markdown converter built and operated by Simon Crouch for AI tools, coding agents, indexing and analysis.

Before working in AI, Simon spent years working in NHS IT. That experience made data security and privacy part of the product rather than an afterthought.

GiantMarkdown was built around two ideas: give AI useful, focused text so it wastes fewer tokens, and keep people's documents under their control. Embedded images are deliberately left out: the converter does not use a vision model or OCR and does not include images in its Markdown output.

Most supported documents can be converted directly in the browser. Files that need cloud conversion use private, short-lived storage and are deleted after conversion.
